Windows Server 2003 EOL – Why Hurry? PCI That’s Why!

Windows Server 2003 EOL
End of support means there will be no updates or patches to combat security issues. All critical data and applications on Windows Server 2003 [Windows Small Business Server 2003] are at risk. The Department of Homeland Security has issued an alert asking all businesses to move off of Windows Server 2003 due to security and compliance risks.
End of Support for Windows Server 2003 is July 14, 2015, which is a lot sooner than you may think. There is no direct, in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 R2. Customers will need to migrate applications, files, and services to new server hardware, or new virtual machines. Having enough lead time is crucial to a smooth migration. The risks, and the costs, increase significantly the longer you wait. Now is the time to get started!
Tell me more about PCI compliance for credit card acceptance.
PCI DSS section 6.1 states that all organizations must “Ensure that all system components and software are protected from known vulnerabilities by having the latest vendor-supplied security patches installed.” READ THE ADVISORY HERE …
Virtualization is just going to make management more complex.
Managing multiple, disparate systems is what adds complexity. Virtualization delivers more flexibility, better scalability, and higher reliability. It also maximizes your hardware investment by fully utilizing the computing power and resources you’re paying for.
Upgrading is going to be too expensive.
Actually, in the long term, upgrading will reduce costs. Outdated hardware and software costs more to run and maintain. The latest systems are more energy efficient, so not only will you be able to reduce energy costs, but with Windows Server 2012 R2, you can take advantage of more cost-effective storage and built-in disaster recovery. You’ll also benefit from easier remote access and a consistent user experience.
We don’t have the time or the resources to handle a migration project right now.
That’s why we’re here. We want to make this easy for you now, before end of support makes things more challenging. Why don’t you let us conduct a free assessment of your IT infrastructure? We can put together a plan that will show you exactly what it would take. Many customers discover that upgrading is more reasonable than they expected and the benefits received far outweigh the risk.
